37 Years of Voices and Gratitude: Freedom Fest’s Patriotic Sing

This year Sponsored by Oakwood School

For nearly four decades, one special tradition has brought our community together in a simple but powerful way: children’s voices raised in song to celebrate our country. The annual Patriotic Sing, now in its 37th year, continues to honor the spirit of service, gratitude, and unity that connects generations.

Each year, children from across the community gather on stage to sing beloved songs that celebrate the United States and the values that unite us. The event is proudly patriotic, not political, focusing on appreciation for the nation and those who serve it. Through music, the young performers share a message of gratitude, hope, and pride in their country.

The concert is free and open to everyone, making it a summer event for families, neighbors, veterans, and friends. While there is no admission charge, attendees are invited to make voluntary donations to the South Bay Chapter of the Blue Star Moms, a nonprofit organization that supports active-duty service members, veterans, and their families. These donations help fund care packages, community programs, and assistance for military families. We also encourage our audience to make a donation to Morgan Hill Freedom Fest.

A particularly meaningful feature of the Patriotic Sing is the Wall of Heroes. Created each year by the chorus members, the wall recognizes friends and family of local families who have, or are currently, serving in the U.S. military. Alongside each name is the service branch and area of deployment, offering a powerful reminder that the people behind the uniforms are members of our own community—friends, siblings, parents, and neighbors.

For the children in the chorus, the Wall of Heroes provides a personal connection to the purpose behind their music. Many sing knowing that someone they love—or someone loved by a classmate—is serving far from home. Their songs become a heartfelt thank-you to those who protect the freedoms celebrated in the program. And, it is vitally important that our country’s youth learn the treasured patriotic songs of our country.

Over the past 37 years, the Patriotic Sing has grown into more than just a concert. It has become a tradition that brings generations together. Alumni of the chorus return with families of their own, community members mark the beginning of summer by attending, and veterans often share that the children’s voices are among the most meaningful tributes they receive. And, by joining our choir, children learn the words to treasured patriotic songs.

The event’s enduring success lies in its simplicity: music, community, and gratitude. In a time when many gatherings focus on differences, the Patriotic Sing offers a moment to celebrate what people share—a love of country and respect for those who serve it.

As the chorus lifts their voices once again this year, the tradition continues exactly as it began: children singing songs of our country, a community gathered in appreciation, and a heartfelt salute to the heroes whose names line the Wall. The  true gift of the evening is the unity created when a community comes together in song and gratitude.
